Conference cross country results

PRESQUE ISLE — The Foxcroft Academy boys scored 203 points to place eighth among nine Class B teams at the 2018 Penobscot Valley Conference (PVC) Cross Country Championships on Oct. 13 at the University of Maine-Presque Isle. The Ponies’ 203 points was ahead of the 216 accumulated by Washington Academy of East Machias.

Foxcroft sophomore Joseph Keenan had his team’s best time as he covered the five kilometers in 19 minutes, 53 seconds. Keenan placed 31st among a field of 62 Class B runners.

Sophomore Barrett Knapp came in 36th in a time of 20:22.9, and Jediah Dean finished 38th at 20:24.7. Rounding out the Foxcroft top five were senior Nicolas Daneman in 40th place at 20:29.8 and sophomore Andrew Marston in 58th place in a time of 25:22.

Foxcroft was also represented by sophomore Shuxiang Hu in 59th place at 27:17 and freshman Hunter Payeur in 60th place at 27:30.3.

Hermon High School won the boys conference title with a score of 40 points, followed by 42 for Caribou High School and 94 for Mount Desert Island High School. Washington junior Matyas Nachtiagall was the PVC Class B champion in 17:03.6.

Dexter Regional High School sophomore Michael Gadwah ran as a Class C individual. Among boys smaller school entrants Gadwah came in 31st out of 64 with a time of 21:20.9.

Orono High School won the boys PVC Class C conference crown at 20 points, followed by 40 for George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill, and 112 for Calais High School. Sumner Memorial High School of East Sullivan sophomore Luke Barnes had the top Class C performance at 17:57.

The Foxcroft girls came in eighth among eight Class B squads with a score of 203 points.

Pony sophomore Kaylee Durgin led the team by placing 38th out of 55 runners with a time of 26:33.9. Right behind in 39th place was freshman Olivia McCorrison at 26:41.6.

Junior Leyao Liang finished 43rd in 27:24.2, freshman Makayla Landry came in 51st at 30:11.5, and rounding out the Foxcroft contingent was sophomore Evelyn Marston in 52nd place at 30:12.4

MDI took girls team honors at 32 points, less than half of the 75 for runner-up Caribou, and also ahead of the 82 for John Bapst Memorial High School of Bangor. Ellsworth High School junior Caitlin MacPherson won the PVC Class B race in 20:17.3.
