Foxcroft celebrates Homecoming with season-high nine goals
DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Foxcroft Academy girls soccer celebrated the team’s 2018 Homecoming game on Thursday, Oct. 4 vs. neighboring Piscataquis Community High School in a big way as the Ponies scored a 2018-best nine goals in a 9-1 victory. Foxcroft’s previous high in the nine games before was six goals, in a 6-0 win at PCHS on Sept. 13.
The Ponies (the team improved to 4-6 and snapped a three-game losing streak) got on the scoreboard nearly 21 minutes into play as freshman Kiya Cook brought the ball up field and into the middle of the box. Cook passed to classmate Kamryn Commeau cutting in from the right as Commeau put the ball in for the first of the nine goals. Just over a minute later Commeau would score again by directing a loose ball near the edge of the box into the top of the PCHS goal for a 2-0 advantage at the 17:49-mark.

Junior Olivia Wesley scored twice in the final four minutes of the opening half as Foxcroft built a 4-0 lead.
The Ponies added five more goals in the second half, including three from Cook and another by senior Kailee Ward on a penalty kick and goal No. 9 coming from senior Sarasofia Stentardo.
Just over halfway through the second half, PCHS was awarded a free kick on the Foxcroft side of the field. Pirate junior Caroline Goggin took the kick and she sent it directly into the left side of the net for her team’s goal.
PCHS sophomores Meagan Lemieux and Willow Sandy split the game in goal with each playing a half. The pair of Pirates combined for 19 saves.
