Saturday night lights, Greenville boys edge PCHS in overtime
GUILFORD — The Greenville High School boys soccer shined just a tad brighter in overtime as the Lakers won at Piscataquis Community High School under the lights on the evening of Saturday, Sept. 29. In honor of PCHS Homecoming, the 50th anniversary of soccer at the school, and the induction of the inaugural class of the PCHS Athletic Hall of Fame, eight sets of portable lights were brought in to enable the interclass contest to be played in primetime between the regional rivals.
With under two minutes to go in regulation and PCHS down 2-1, Pirate junior Caleb Crocker scored a goal at the 1:34 mark to set up bonus soccer. Class C North PCHS (the team fell to 3-6-1) had tied the game at a goal a piece earlier in the second half before Class D South Greenville (7-3) went ahead 2-1 with 15:22 to go.
After a five-minute break, the two teams returned to the field with PCHS defending the goal at the east side of the field and Greenville in the net adjacent to Campus Drive. The Lakers had possession early in overtime and the team got the ball into the left corner where senior Ben Baldwin won control and lobbed through the air toward the box.

LET THERE BE LIGHTS — In honor of the 50th anniversary of soccer at PCHS, the induction of the school’s inaugural athletic hall of fame class and Homecoming, portable lights were set up for a Sept. 29 primetime soccer game between the Pirates and Greenville. Junior Chris Caiazzo received the pass from Baldwin and he was able to get a shot off on goal. Caiazzo’s kick found its mark for the game-winner at the 3:14-mark of overtime.
Caiazzo also scored his team’s second goal for a game-high multiple goals. The assist on the game-winner was the second for Baldwin, who passed to junior Camden Harmon for the first goal of the evening with just over 30 seconds to go before halftime.
Cobb had a hand in both of his team’s goals as he assisted on the first Pirate score with sophomore Caleb Willis putting the ball in the Greenville net.

The two teams are scheduled to pay again in Greenville at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12.
