Brownville Junction High School alumni award scholarships

BROWNVILLE JUNCTION — The alumni of Brownville Junction High School held their annual reunion on Aug. 25. For many years they have awarded scholarships to college students based on academic performance. This year they will provide a total of $19,000 in financial assistance to the grandchildren and great-grandchildren of BJHS alumni members. These scholarships are available to students no matter where they attend college as long as they have a parent, grandparent or great-grandparent who is/was a member of the association.

This year four of those scholarships have been awarded to students who attend Husson University. Those students, who are all majoring in the medical field, are Alyssa Murano, LaGrange; Joshua Martin, LaGrange; Jordan Durant, Brownville; and Mackenzie Worcester, Washburn.

A scholarship was awarded to Holly Wadman of Ellsworth, who is attending the New England College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Two scholarship recipients are attending the University of Maine Orono – Blake Morrison of Ebeemee Township and Aleah Dean of Hermon.

Two scholarships were awarded to Clayton Preble of Milo and Alexander Bryer of Scarborough who are attending Maine Maritime Academy.

Reid Buzza of Auburn is attending Eastern Maine Community College this year.

Emma O’Connor of Glenburn is attending the University of Virginia.

Four other students who do not have local connections were also awarded scholarships.

Eight of these scholarships are in the amount of $1,500; seven are $1,000 scholarships. The grade point averages of this year’s applicants ranged from 3.4 to 4.2.

In other business at the reunion, June Marsh, Milo, was elected president; Charlene Buzza, Presque Isle, vice president; Barbie Sickler, Brownville, secretary; and Linda Coburn, Brownville Junction, treasurer. Members on the board of directors are Betty Rosebush, Marilyn Delmage, Frances Zwicker, George Dean, Patty Petrie, Donna Morrill and Marvin Lundin.

Approximately 75 people attended the alumni luncheon held at the American Legion/BJHS Alumni Building in Brownville Junction.
