Guests are covered at The Covered Bridge Motel

GUILFORD — On Thursday morning, Aug. 2 an unexpected visitor arrived at The Covered Bridge Motel which is located at 382 Water Street across from the famous Low’s Covered Bridge which spans the Piscataquis River. Linda Moon, the owner, was informed that the visitor was a health inspector. So Linda proceeded to take the inspector wherever she wanted to go.

Linda had always wanted to own a bed and breakfast ever since she was seven years old and watched “The Bob Newhart Show.” She was fascinated with the idea and thought it would be a great way to meet all sorts of people! As an adult she and her son began looking around to fulfil that dream. In the process, they came across a motel for for sale in Guilford. It would involve a lot of work to get it up and running, but after negotiations they happily purchased it. That was 2013.

Since then she, her husband and her son have worked diligently, remodeling four rooms of the 10 that are now available. The goal is to do two a year. Each room has a 32-inch flat screen TV, refrigerator, microwave and air conditioning. The motel has the ITS trail going through the property which is easily accessible from their backyard. This gives opportunities for walking, ATV riders, snowmobilers and snowshoeing. Eagles are often seen as the river is in full view. Turkeys and other birds, deer, coyotes and once a bobcat will also please those who enjoy wildlife. The five family chickens reside there as well. Dover-Foxcroft, a few miles down the road, offers amenities and New England charm and is close to Peaks-Kenny State Park on the shores of Sebec Lake.

COVERED BRIDGE MOTEL IN GUILFORD — Owner Linda Moon of The Covered Bridge Motel on Water Street in Guilford. The facility features 10 rooms and is located next to the ITS trail, across the street from Low’s Covered Bridge spanning the Piscataquis River and close to many of the region’s attractions.

There is a restaurant on the premises which is not operating at the present time, but Linda would be interested in leasing this to someone with restaurant experience. She would love to see it open again!

The health inspector was assessing the rooms for cleanliness, ventilation, lighting and regular maintenance. The laundry room, water supply, electrical systems, garbage storage and much more was evaluated. At the end of the tour, the inspector turned to Linda and announced that she had received a 100 percent rating! That does not happen very often, but Linda has a motto “always strive for perfection!” I think she reached that on Aug. 2. Congratulations to Linda and family!
