Friends of Community Fitness holds annual 5K and kids fun run

GUILFORD — Friends of Community Fitness held its 13th annual Fitness 5K, as part of the Piscataquis River Festival, on the morning of July 28 with the following results (again this year entrants ran the course in Guilford and Sangerville against traffic).

Seventeen-year-old Dawson Smith won the Fitness 5K for the third year in a row. In 2018 he covered the 3.1 miles in a time of 20 minutes, 14 seconds to finish first among a field of 20 entrants.

FRIENDS OF COMMUNITY FITNESS FUN RUN — The Kids Fun Run, hosted by Friends of Community Fitness, kicked off the 2018 Piscataquis River Festival on July 28 in Guilford. Five children ran a loop around the perimeter of the athletic field prior to the 13th annual Fitness 5K. The five younger runners are, from left, Chloe Smith, Karlie Walter, Drew McKinney, Natalia Robins and Hunter Walter.

Before the 5K boys and girls had the opportunity to run a lap inside the athletic field in the Kids Fun Run. Drew McKenney was the first of the five to the finish line and Natalia Robins came in second to earn the top girls’ honor. The rest of the five were, in order, Chloe Smith, Hunter Walter and Karlie Walter.
