Fourth annual Dexter Kiwanis CRUISE-IN rolling in soon
DEXTER — Every summer holds the promise of family fun and enjoyment. This year we look forward to another great edition of the Dexter Sunrise Kiwanis Club’s CRUISE-IN.
The event began as a small event back in 2015. Classic car fans and owners decided to get together in a casual setting to show off their vehicles and compete for the bragging rights that came with a great afternoon in the sun and cool hand-made awards/trophies. Originally the CRUISE-IN was held in the Dexter municipal parking lot. It was small, it was fun and a grand time was had by all. The second year’s CRUISE-IN nearly doubled in size, the crowds and the number of car owners outgrew the space. The event had quickly grown to become one of the premier classic car shows in the Maine highlands, and we knew we were onto something not just big but tons of fun too.
In response to the popularity of the CRUISE-IN, the venue has changed. Bigger, better and more space for more cars and more events is the word of the day for this event.
The fourth annual Dexter Sunrise Kiwanis CRUISE-IN will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4 (rain date is Aug. 5) in the parking lot at the Ridge View Community School on Fern Road off Route 94. DJ Mike and the Wildwoods Band, always a local favorite, will be returning and will provide great musical entertainment.
Car owners will compete for “Cool Rides” awards/trophies, handcrafted by local artisans, great food and drink will be sold by the Kiwanis, event T-shirts are for sale and for the first time this year sponsors and vendors will be present in informational booths so folks can learn more about their businesses and classic cars. Car owner admission is $5 per vehicle (occupants free) and $2 per walk-in, so load up your cars and come on down.
