Keeping Families Together session Aug. 5 in Dover-Foxcroft

To the Editor;
This summer, we Americans have a growing awareness of the crisis on our U.S. southern border, that of desperate families who have fled from the life-threatening conditions of gangster violence in the economically unstable Central American countries of Guatamala, El Salvador and Honduras and who seek asylum in the U.S.

As Americans, we have the resources and compassion to rise to this crisis for our fellow human beings. Learn more about the refugees at our Mexican border and how we can help by attending Keeping Families Together at the Thompson Free Library from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 5 in Dover-Foxcroft. Guest speakers are Bangor residents Katherine Kates and Dennis Chinoy of Power in Community Alliances (PICA).

This event, hosted by the education and outreach committee of the Piscataquis County Democrats, is a strawberry shortcake fundraiser! Suggested donation is $5 per person. All proceeds go to Save The Children, a non-profit charity that is one of the major relief organizations currently working to assist families-in-crisis at our southern border.
