Milo Historical Society’s fifth annual art show scheduled for Saturday

MILO — On Saturday, July 21 from 1 to 5 p.m. the Milo Historical Society will host its fifth annual art show at the Three Rivers Kiwanis Building, on Gerrish Road off outer Park Street. The art show serves as a fundraiser for the historical society, light refreshments will be available, and the event showcases the talent and creative spirit of community members.

“It gives another cultural outlet for the town and another cultural outlet for the people,” said Barb Hamlin, who will be taking part in the Milo Historical Society art show again in 2018 after earning second-place honors for a watercolor last year. “The artists feed off each other, once you meet other artists and get together you learn from each other.”

Hamlin teaches physical education and health at Hichborn Middle School in Howland and she said the art show enables herself and other participants to share a different side of themselves.

About 30 artists will be taking part in the 2018 exhibition, and artwork from several students will also be on display Saturday afternoon.

“There is going to be a children’s section this year to encourage children,” Linda Moe said.

Photographers have submitted their images for the first time in the half decade of the art show and the inaugural sculptures submissions will be exhibited. “This is opening up a whole new world this year,” Wilma Stanchfield said.

“This is not just Milo, this is all over,” she added, as artists taking part reside across the region. Those participating can display up to three pieces, including watercolor, acrylic, oil, ink, gouache, graphite, pastels and colored and black and white pencil drawings.

Those viewing the artwork at the July 21 show will be the ones deciding who gets top honors. People’s Choice awards will be presented for first, second and third place.
