Sumner and the D-F Kiwanis auction are right around the corner

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Summer is in the air … and the annual Dover-Foxcroft Kiwanis Auction is right around the corner. The auction will be held Thursday, July 26 to Sunday, July 29 at the Piscataquis Valley Fairgrounds with all the old traditions and exciting events attendees look forward to each year.

The auction has been in existence for nearly 70 years and is one of Piscataquis County’s most waited for events. Three nights of meeting up with old friends, a frenzy of bidding on bargains galore, great food and a chance to help Kiwanis support the kids of the community through their many projects …. just a “win-win” event for everyone involved.

This year will see the return of specialized and dedicated events such as “Antiques Night-Plus” on July 26, “Featured Items” Night July 27, Corporate Sponsor’s Night July 28 and ending with the very popular barn sale on July 29 from 1-4 p.m. This is a cash and carry and everything goes event and an opportunity for the public to tour the Auction Barn and make offers on anything remaining. All legitimate offers will be accepted.

The auction will tout all of the normal exciting activities including the Bargain Barn, an inside yard sale run by and supporting the Foxcroft Academy Key Club. Fill a bag of goodies and get in this building an hour before the live auction begins. The book barn is filled with thousands of books especially cookbooks, movies, DVDs, CDs — all supporting the same local Kiwanis charities.

The food trailers will be fully stocked and ready to feed tummies with those delicious and famous Kiwanis hot dogs, burgers, regular and sweet potato fries and Dough Boys. The Beverage Express will be ready for those who don’t want to wait in line but need a cold drink quickly.

Back by popular demand will be a silent auction running Thursday through Saturday night.

There will be a maple baked bean supper on Saturday complete with maple beans, cole slaw, hot dogs, rolls and ice cream bars — and of course a 50/50 raffle running each night.

If you have items to donate to the auction, please all Judy Raymond at 564-2246 or 279-6170 or Lynette Rayfield at 802-8081 to make arrangements for pickups. Additionally, Kiwanis members will be at the Piscataquis Valley Fairgrounds each Tuesday evening from 5:30-7:30 to accept drop-off items.

The Dover-Foxcroft Kiwanis appreciates support of its charitable projects, including the signature project Kiwanis Park located next to the PRYMCA as well as Pine Tree Hospice, Center Theatre drama camp program, PRYMCA swim program, local food cupboards, SeDoMoCha School and SAD 4 backpack programs, academic awards for Foxcroft Academy and PCHS, Foxcroft and PCHS Key Clubs, builder’s clubs, fuel assistance, the annual Christmas project and many other community needs.
