Robshaw and Baldwin combine to win three state track championships

Penquis Valley High School junior Cymeria Robshaw won a pair of jumps and came in third in the 100 at the 2018 Class C Outdoor Track and Field Championships on June 2 at Massabesic High School in Waterboro.

Robshaw earned top honors in the long jump with her leap of 17 feet, 7.75 inches. She bested runner-up Orono High School junior Camillee Kohtala’s distance of 17-02.50 by more than five inches.

Individual state title No. 2 for Robshaw came in the triple jump. She placed first in this event with a leap of 34-10.50, besting Spruce Mountain High School of Jay senior Hannah St. Pierre by 3.75 inches (34-06.75).

Robshaw also came in third in the 100-meter finals with a time of 13.17 seconds.

The pair of first-place performances and the third-place finish of Robshaw’s resulted in all 26 points for Penquis. The 26 points placed the Patriots eighth overall among a field of 30 schools on Saturday.

Dexter Regional High School came in 21st at the girls’ meet with a score of six points.

Junior Danielle Cummings came in fourth in the 200 with a time of 27.56 seconds. She was also sixth in the 100 at 13.35 seconds to account for the half dozen Tiger points.

Cummings was also ninth in the long jump at 14-10.25 and she placed 12th in the high jump at 4-04. Dexter senior Rebecca Batron finished 10th in the shot put with a throw of 28-03.75.

Greenville High School sophomore Bianca Breton took part in the javelin competition at the state meet. She would end up in 10th place with a throw of 89-02.

In the Class C boys’ meet, Greenville junior Ben Baldwin won the 200. He finished the event in a time of 23.68 seconds, a fourth of a second faster than 200-meter runner-up Mount Abram High School of Salem freshman Jon Jordan and his time of 23.93 seconds.

Baldwin also came in fourth in the 100 at a time of 12.01 seconds.

Laker senior Devin Boone placed in the top four in two throwing events. Boone came in third in the discus at 123-10 and he was also fourth in the shot put at 45-09.

Baldwin and Boone combined for 24 points. This total placed Greenville 12th among 33 squads recording points at the state meet.

Laker sophomore Jack Morehouse joined his teammates in York County on Saturday, as Morehouse finished 10th in the javelin at 130-07.

The boys from Dexter were part of a three-way tie for 29th place as the Tigers, Bucksport High School and Gould Academy of Bethel all recorded three points.

Dexter sophomore Cameron Paige had the fifth-best time in the 100 at 12.09 seconds.

Paige also finished 14th in the high jump at 5-04 and he was 16th in the 200 at 25.61 seconds. Dexter junior David Kirshkaln was 19th in the shot put with a throw of 35-10.50.

Penquis senior Adam Stetson took part in the shot put as well at the Class C finale. Stetson ended the day in 25th place with a throw of 28-01.50.

Foxcroft Academy hosted the 2018 Class B Outdoor Track and Field Championships on June 2.

At the team’s home facilities the Pony boys scored three points to tie Presque Isle High School for 25th place among 28 schools with athletes finishing in the top seven in their events on June 2.

Foxcroft sophomore Daniel Rihtesberg came in sixth in the javelin with a throw measuring 147-11.

Pony junior Hyatt Smith scored the other point with his seventh-place finish in the high jump. Smith cleared the bar at a height of 5-10.

Smith also came in 10th in the triple jump at 40-00.25. Foxcroft freshman Isaac Drury was 21st in the 110-hurdle prelims with a time of 18.76 seconds.

A pair of Ponies took part in the girls’ Class B meet.

Junior Makenzie Beaudry was part of a seven-way tie for 10th place in the high jump as she and the other half dozen all cleared 4-08 in the same number of jumps. Junior Cailin Seavey finished 12th in the javelin at exactly 90 feet.
