Free kids admission for ‘Lion King Jr.’ opening night May 4 at Center Theatre

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Center Theatre announced that thanks to a sponsorship by Dave’s World and U.S. Cellular all kids 10 and under can attend for free at the opening night of Disney’s “Lion King Jr.” at the Center Theatre at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 4. The show features a cast of talented young actors from the local community and is being directed by Ben Layman, with musical direction by Emily Allen. The show is co-sponsored by Foxcroft Veterinary Services.

The show tells the classic tale of Simba the lion as he grows and becomes king of jungle and ruler of the Pridelands. “This is such a wonderful, entertaining story,” said Patrick Myers executive director of the Center Theatre, “and we’re happy to be able to bring it to life on the Center Theatre stage. It’s so important for kids to see live theater, so we’re thrilled to be able to offer the show free for kids 10 and under on opening night. I’m sure we’ll be very busy that night, so we are encouraging everyone to get their tickets in advance to guarantee they’ll have a seat.”

The Center Theatre Board of Directors will also be hosting a dessert reception after the show so the audience can meet the cast and celebrate opening night.

Tickets for opening night and the other shows on Saturday, May 5, Sunday, May 6 and Saturday, May 12, can be purchased at www.centertheatre.org, by calling the theatre at 564-8943, by visiting the Center Theatre’s Facebook page or visiting the theatre in person between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays. The Center Theatre is a non-profit organization dedicated to making the arts a part of life in the Maine Highlands by offering affordable arts, culture, entertainment, and education.
