My Wild Fern brings art to the community

DOVER-FOXCROFT — United Maine Crafter/artist Sarah Robinson, owner and creator of My Wild Fern, focuses on nature and creating environmentally friendly products by recycling, upcycling and reusing waste into most aspects of the art work. Recycling post-consumer (newspaper, junk mail, paper bags, etc.) waste paper into handmade paper is just one of the ways My Wild Fern recycles. By upcycling old clothing, curtains and yarn and reusing metal or wood to create new and beautiful products is the artist’s purpose.

Handmade paper earrings are My Wild Fern’s specialty. Wildflower seeds, herbs, ferns and other natural particles can be found embedded in the sealed light-weight paper. Some earrings have Maine birch bark embellishments, others with hints of recycled newspaper words with a pretty and natural finish and others with a funky shape and vibe, guaranteed to lead as a conversation piece.

One can also find note cards that are plantable, each with different types of wildflower seeds that attract honey bees and butterflies. This paper can be planted with a loved one in mind, a prayer or a thought that needs to be buried or words that need to sprout — “Write. Plant. Let Go. Grow.”

My Wild Fern products can be found online at www.etsy.com/shop/mywildfern, The Merchant Co. in Portland, A&L Marketplace in Putnam, Conn. and this summer in the United Maine Crafter art shows across the state.

My Wild Fern will be celebrating its birthday the end of this month, fitting for Women’s History month, marking one year since Ladies Craft Nights started in Dover True Value after hours. Craft nights began with the vision of inviting women into the hardware store to create Pinterest inspired and fun projects using tools, paint, upcycled wood and reused materials.

My Wild Fern has traveled to many different businesses around town, bringing a fun night of crafting available for locals to enjoy and creating a unique project to go home with. Since December 2017, My Wild Fern has made a new home, “the studio” at 79 East Main Street in downtown Dover-Foxcroft where events are now hosted.

The My Wild Fern Studio currently offers monthly Ladies Craft Nights, children’s arts and crafternoons, birthday parties and private events along with art workshops and classes for all adults from a wide variety of talented Maine art instructors and crafters. Follow www.facebook.com/mywildfern or email mywildfern@gmail.com for upcoming events and classes in order to “come get your art on.” More information is also available at www.mywildfern.com.
