February at Thompson Free Library
DOVER-FOXCROFT — We’ve made it to February, the time when winter starts to wear on even the hardiest of Mainers. While this month is known for Valentine’s Day, the Thompson Free Library in Dover-Foxcroft is headed in different directions, focusing on amnesty, science and technology and, most importantly, the zen of Nerf.
Amnesty Days begin Tuesday, Feb. 6 and end Saturday, Feb. 17. Bring in your overdues books or DVDs and a non-perishable food item (for people or pets) and we will forgive the fines on the returned materials. The food will be donated to the Dover-Foxcroft Area Food Cupboard. What a great way to support your community, declutter, and ease your guilty conscience (wink wink).
Wednesday, Feb. 14 from 1-3 p.m. marks the kick off of our Technology Help Time. It will be held on the second Wednesday of each month. Stop by and we’ll try to answer any questions you may have regarding your laptops, tablets, phones, etc. While we may be able to troubleshoot for you, keep in mind that we do not fix computers or other devices.
Vacation Science Camp will be held Tuesday, Feb. 20 through Friday, Feb. 23 from 10-11:15 a.m. Come join STEM Guide Alicia Millette and Librarian Michelle Fagan for hands-on STEM activities including designing your own keychain with a 3D printer; making your own electric car and racing it; and even discovering how magnets have force fields. This free program is for grades 4 and up. Please contact the library to sign up.
Finally, let your kids channel all their pent up, stir crazy energy and let loose at Nerf Night on Friday, Feb. 23 from 6-8 p.m. Bring your own nerf pellets and nerf guns (please label them). This event, for grade 5 and up, will be chaperoned and Fagan will be the facilitator (a.k.a. sheriff!). Games on tap: capture the flag, free play, and in the dark. Space is limited, so please contact the library if you plan to attend.
