Drama camp registrations at the Center Theatre

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Center Theatre announced recently that registration is open for the 2018 drama camps. This year’s offerings include both a February and April vacation camp as well as the long-standing Summer Drama Camp.

Patrick Myers, the Center Theatre’s executive director is looking forward to a busy season of educational programming. “This is the first year that we’ve offered a drama camp for both the February and April school vacations,” he said. “We’re able to do this largely because we can have the camps at the newly renovated Commons Event Center at Central Hall. It will be a great space for the camps and for the kids.”

The February vacation camp will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 19-23 at the Commons Event Center at Central Hall. Emily Hutchins and David Murray are back from last year’s summer camp to work with the kids on a fun one-act play called “BedBugs.” The play will be performed at Central Hall at 7 p.m. on Friday the 23rd.

The April vacation camp will also be at Central Hall and will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 16-20. The April camp will be taught by Derrick Buschmann, Foxcroft Academy’s theatre and film teacher. He will teach “The Lion King Experience” with lessons, activities, and exercises based on Disney’s “Lion King Jr.,” which will be performed at the theatre in May. While there will be no performance around this camp, they will create materials that will be on display in the Center Theatre lobby during the performance.

An of course, the Center Theatre will be having the children’s summer drama camp at the East Sangerville Grange. This year, the first session will be from July 23 to Aug. 3 and the second session will be from Aug. 6-17.

Parents can register their kids for any of the three camps. Thanks to generous local businesses like Pleasant River Lumber, organizations like the Kiwanis, and individual donors, the Center Theatre is able to offer some scholarships for those with financial need.
