Hands of Giving Tree returns to Hometown Health Center

Hometown Health Center (HHC) is operating its Hands of Giving Tree again this year. Winter can be a difficult time for families with limited resources. Often, children go without the winter necessities, but HHC is here to help.

There is a Hands of Giving Tree in each practice location that has mittens, scarves, and hats to be given away free to all who need warm winter items.

“We have had little kids come in with their poor little fingers about to fall off,” said Robin Winslow, CEO of Hometown Health Center. “We provide high-quality medical care to the community, but sometimes they have other needs, so we try to fill those too. There is nothing like the smile on a child’s face when they first put on their warm, new pair of mittens.”

The Hands of Giving Tree is an organization-wide effort. The staff pay money if they want to “dress down.” These funds allow HHC to purchase items to support the Tree. But as the need increases, more help is needed.

“We are hoping the community will help us and purchase winter items for our tree so everyone who needs something warm will get it,” added Winslow. “We are extremely happy to be partnering with Maine Highlands Federal Credit Union, this year. They are going to be a drop site for us to make it easier for the community to donate items.”

To donate purchased or handmade mittens, scarves, and hats, please drop them off at the Maine Highlands Federal Credit Union, 73 Main Street, Dexter or 955 West Main Street, Dover-Foxcroft. Or bring the items to one of the Hometown Health Center locations: 118 Moosehead Trail, Suite 5, Newport; 29 Church Street, Dexter; 1008 West Main Street, Dover-Foxcroft; or 140 Chandler Street, Pittsfield.
