November events at Thompson Free Library
DOVER-FOXCROFT — Thanksgiving leaps to mind when we think of November. But all too often the focus is on food and stuffing ourselves, not just the turkey. Keep in mind that gratitude has a place at the table too. So be grateful for community resources like the Thompson Free Library, and, as Veterans Day approaches, for our men and women in the armed forces, past and present.
They will especially be in our thoughts on Tuesday, Nov. 7 as librarian Michelle Fagan is planning an all-day drop in event to make or bring cards (of a general nature) to send to troops serving overseas. Stop in and express your appreciation. It’s a great way to let them know we care about them and that they are not forgotten.
Join us for the Brown Bag Lunch Series on from 12:30-1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9 as career consultant Cornell McLellan from Bangor’s Tri-County CareerCenter will talk about the center’s services, workshops and important technology updates that improve job matching capabilities between employer and job seeker.
He will also have handouts and copies of his “newly re-activated itinerant site schedule where folks can come in to see me closer to their area to get CareerCenter service assistance.”
We are happy to announce a wonderful collaboration between the Dover Cove Farmers’ Market and the Thompson Free Library. The Farmers’ Market will be held on the first and third Saturday of every month from Nov. 18 through April 21 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.in our downstairs Community Meeting Room.
Manager Rose Rapp says that participants will include Leaves and Blooms Greenhouse, Farm in the Woods and Two Roads Farm. What you can expect to find: fresh veggies, root crops, baked goods, dairy, goat milk soap, crafts and collectibles — with plans, as Rapp explains, to expand into “prepared foods.” Coffee and tea will be available, along with tables and chairs so people can, as she puts, it, “sit and have a conversation.”
“We’re very excited about it,” Rapp says, “the farmers have been mulling this over for a couple of years, really wanting to embark on a collaboration with the library, which is such a welcoming space.”

Please note that the library will be closed Saturday, Nov. 11 in observance of Veterans Day. We will also be closed Thursday, Nov. 23 and Friday, Nov. 24 to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday.
Attention all you “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe” fans, the last day for those participating in the family game to win tickets to the Center Theatre production is Saturday, Nov. 28.
This month, why not embrace the changing seasons and the ever-changing opportunities they bring. A library like the Thompson Free Library is an invaluable (if sometimes endangered) resource these days, not an archaic relic, but a vibrant entity with abundant offerings. Come see for yourself.
