Ponies run at Class B North cross country championships

BELFAST — The Foxcroft Academy boys cross country team finished in 13th place at the Class B North Championship on Oct. 20 at Troy Howard Middle School. The Ponies’ top five runners combined to score 339 points, besting the 371 accumulated by 14th place Oceanside High School of Rockland.

Junior Nic Daneman was the first Foxcroft runner to cross the finish line. Daneman covered the 3.1 miles in a time of 19 minutes, 35.35 seconds to place 44th in a field of 100 entrants.

Freshman Barrett was next for his team as he came in 55th with a time of 20:09.13. Freshman Corey Merrill was 82nd in 21:55.52.

Right behind Merrill was senior Kazu Kawashima with his time of 22:10.40. Junior Chenbin Yu rounded out the Foxcroft top five by placing 91st in 24:46.55

Junior Christian Blakely and freshman Andre Marsten also ran for Foxcroft. Blakely finished 92nd with a time of 25:38.77 and Marsten placed 96th at 27:52.02.

Three members of the Foxcroft cross country program ran in the girls’ Class B North Championship.

Freshman Maddie Leathers had the top performance of the trio. Leathers placed 54th among 86 entrants in a time of 25:10.66.

Sophomore Leyao Liang came in 64th at 26:35.98. Freshman Evelyn Marsten finished 81st in a time of 31:44.02.

Dexter Regional High School freshman Michael Gadwah took part in the boys’ Class C North race. Gadwah placed 90th among 106 entrants in a time of 23:39.16.
