DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Maine Highlands Senior Center, to be housed on the first floor of Central Hall on East Main Street, has received two grants.

The Maine Community Foundation has awarded the Maine Highlands Senior Center $10,000 for the Senior Commons Community Conversations to encourage community participation in the development of programming for the new Senior Commons. This grant is from the Piscataquis County Fund of the Maine Community Foundation at the recommendation of the Piscataquis County Committee advisors.

The Quimby Family Foundation has awarded the Maine Highlands Senior Center $15,000 to make the existing trails in the region safer and more accessible to the older adult population. This project will include trail surveying, educational programs, trail upgrades, and the development of a walk and thrive club. The Walk and Thrive Club will increase the awareness of and community interaction with nature via the enhancement of walking trails with benches, signs, foliage, and safety features. It will also increase person-to person, inter-generational relations by structuring walking clubs wherein each hiker has a younger buddy.
