Brownville–Brownville Junction Historical Society announces book cover contest winner

BROWNVILLE — The Brownville–Brownville Junction Historical Society and Parish House Museum volunteers would like to thank all who contributed photos, negatives and offered artwork for use as a basis for the book cover contest announced last month.

The winning selection will grace the cover of author Ken Hatchette’s book “More Than a Train Yard and a Whistle Stop, The Canadian Pacific Railway’s Brownville Division 1886 to 1963.”

The publishing committee narrowed the selection to five. The final choice was a photographic excerpt of a section of an existing mural hanging in the society’s Parish House Museum that was painted by local artist Suzette East. The mural is a beautiful hand-painted and vividly colored work that has graced the museum for nearly 20 years. A cover credit will appear on the copyright page of the book describing the work in detail as well as a historical account of the steam locomotive depicted in the excerpt.

Books are currently on sale at a special pre-publication and first addition price. Pre-publication copies of the book may be ordered by contacting Susan Worcester at 965-8070 or by visiting the Parish House Museum on Tuesday or Thursday. The museum will also be open on Saturday, Aug. 5 during the Brownville Community Church’s Old Home Days auction and on Saturday, Aug. 12 during the Brownville Junction High School Alumni reunion.
