Local athletes shine at PVC Small School Track Championship
DOVER-FOXCROFT — Sophomore Cymeria Robshaw captured the 100-meter title during Monday’s 2017 Penobscot Valley Conference (PVC) Small School Track & Field Championship to help the Penquis Valley High School girls earn fifth-place honors among a field of 13 schools recording points at the competition held at Foxcroft Academy. Robshaw would also place second in the long jump and fourth in the 200 to have a hand in over half of the Patriots’ points.
In the 100 finals, Robshaw edged Orono High School junior Katherine O’Brien by a fraction of a second to win the PVC title in 12.90 seconds. Robshaw had a top jump of 15 feet, 7.5 inches to earn long jump runner-up honors and in the 200 her time of 28.53 seconds was good for fourth place.
Penquis senior Jordan Durant had a distance of 31-05.75 to place second in the triple jump. Durant also landed exactly 14 feet into the sand in the long jump to come in fourth in the event and give her team a pair of top four distances.
Senior Kayla Harmon came in second in the javelin for Penquis. Harmon had a top throw of 104-03.
With a score of 35 points, the girls from Dexter Regional High School came in sixth at the PVC conference meet.
Junior Rebecca Batron had her team’s top performance in the shot put. Batron heaved the implement exactly 29 feet to win, besting Orono sophomore Lauren Melanson by 1.75 inches.
Sophomore Danielle Cummings accounted for 22 of her team’s points. Individually Cummings was the meet runner-up in the 200 at 27.46 seconds and she came in third in the 100 with a time of 13.24 seconds. The Dexter 4×100 relay — comprised of freshman Erin Bache, junior Lily Cummings, Danielle Cummings and sophomore Autumn Irwin — had the day’s second-best time at 54.15 seconds.
Lily Cummings also placed for the Tigers. She tied for fourth in the long jump at a distance of 14-00.
The Piscataquis Community High School and Greenville High School girls were 11th and 13th respectively with scores of six and four points, with each team’s total coming in the high jump.
PCHS freshman Mya Young cleared the bar at 4-06 to earn sole possession of third-place honors in the high jump and pick up the half dozen Pirate points.
Young edged Greenville freshman Abby McDonough on jumps as McDonough came in fourth in the high jump at 4-06 to account for the four Laker points.
The Dexter boys picked up 29 points to come in sixth in a field of 13 teams recording points at the PVC Small School Championship.
Senior Brandon Allen came in second in both the high and long jumps and he was third in the triple jump. In the high jump Allen was second on jumps to junior Max Mattson of George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill as both cleared a height of 5-08.
In the long jump Allen earned runner-up honors at 19-00.75. His distance of 39-08.75 in the triple jump was good for third place.
The Tigers’ 4×100 relay — sophomore Dillion Allen, seniors Jason Campbell and Zach White and junior Lucas Qualey — came in fourth with a time of 48.69 seconds. The Dexter 4×800 relay also placed, in sixth with a time of 10:06.58. This Tiger foursome was made up of Dillion Allen, senior Jacob Hesseltine, sophomore Isaiah Hesseltine and sophomore Christopher Roderka.
Two team members came in sixth in individual events. Qualey earned a spot on the medalist podium by placing sixth in the long jump at 17-09.50. Tanner Hall did likewise in the shot put with his throw of 38-08.75.
The Greenville boys scored 14 points to place 10th on May 29.
A dozen of the 14 points came from junior thrower Devin Boone with a pair of third-place performance. Boone was third in the shot put at 43-03.25 and he had a third-place discus throw at 122-03.
Sophomore Ben Baldwin picked up two points for the Lakers in the 100. Baldwin finished fifth in the event finals with a time of 12.17 seconds.
