Track squads finish the regular season

The area’s high school outdoor track and field teams recently took part in the final meets of the 2017 regular season, with four squads traveling to the University of Maine on May 18.

The Foxcroft Academy boys finished fourth in a field of eight schools at the Orono campus with a score of 70.5 points.

Elijah Ames came first in the 110 hurdles, with a winning time of 20.13 seconds. He also placed third in the 300 hurdles at 51.38 seconds, and finished fourth in the high jump at 5 feet, 2 inches.

Matt Storer was the meet runner-up in both the shot put and discus, having respective throws of 47-00 and 111-02.

Hyatt Smith also recorded a pair of second-place performances. Smith placed second in both the high jump and pole vault, clearing the two bars at 5-04 and 10-06 respectively. Smith also came in fourth in the triple jump at 37-07.25.

Evan Chadbourne sprinted to third place in the 200 at 24.03 seconds. Chadbourne added a fourth-place finish in the 100 at 11.73 seconds.

The Foxcroft 4×100 relay, comprised of Dustin Simmons, Jonathon Feix, Cole Edgerly and Owen Booker, was fourth at 52.16 seconds. Booker came in fifth in the pole vault at 8-06, and David Salley rounded out the scoring by coming in sixth in the javelin at 114-04.

Placing fifth at UMaine were the boys from Dexter Regional High School with 46 points.

Christopher Roderka had the day’s second-best time in the 3,200 at 12:34.78, and Roderka placed fourth in the 1,600 at 5:28.92. He anchored the third-place 4×800 relay team, following Ethan Boutilier, Isaiah Hesseltine and Jacob Hesseltine as the foursome covered the eight laps in 10:26.23.

The Tigers’ Brandon Allen came in second in the triple jump at 40-04.25. Allen placed fourth in the long jump at 18-09.75. He anchored the third-place 4×100 relay squad, joining Dillon Allen, Jason Campbell and Zach White for a time of 48.45 seconds.

Dexter’s other point-scorers were Nate Jerome and Sean Lockhart who came in third and fifth in the javelin at 123-00 and 114-06 respectively and Boutilier who was sixth in the 1,600 at 6:14.57.

Penquis Valley High School’s David Weymouth picked up all six of his team’s points as the Patriots came in seventh in the standings. Weymouth was third in the 1,600 racewalk at 12:43.23.

In the girls’ meet, Penquis compiled 53 points to finish fourth out of a field of eight teams.

Cymeria Robshaw was a double-event winner. She posted the day’s top time in the 100 at 13.22 seconds and won the long jump at 16-09. Robshaw also placed third in the 200 at 28.34 seconds and anchored the fourth-place 4×100 relay. Jordan Durant, Kelsey Robinson, Krista Dearborn and Robshaw together had a time of 57.03 seconds.

Kayla Harmon earned top honors in the javelin with a throw of 92-02.

Durant placed second in the triple jump at 31-09.25, and Robinson tied for third in the high jump at 4-04.

The Dexter girls were fifth with 50 points.

Danielle Cummings won the 200 at 27.81 seconds. She also was second in the 100 at 13.38 seconds and placed fourth in the javelin at 80-04.

The Tiger 4×100 relay, made up of Erin Bache, Autumn Irwin and Lily and Danielle Cummings, came in second at 53.60 seconds. The team had another second-place performance in the shot with Rebecca Batron’s throw going 26-05.50.

In the 100 Bache and Lily Cummings were third and fifth with respective times of 14.15 and 14.27 seconds. Bache was also fifth in the 200 at 29.59 seconds, and Lily Cummings came in fifth in the long jump at 14-05.25.

Foxcroft placed seventh at UMaine with 10 points.

Olivia Wesley lead the Ponies by coming in third in the 800 at 2:38.27. She also opened the sixth-place 4×100 relay as Emily Sprecher, Sarasofia Stentardo and Jacalyn Pelletier followed with the four having a time of 62.82 seconds.

Finishing sixth was Pelletier in the triple jump at 28-09 and Avery Nelson in both the discus and javelin at 66-02 and 78-11.

Mya Young of Piscataquis Community High School picked up her team’s five points as the Pirates were eighth in the team standings. Young tied for third in the high jump by clearing the bar at 4-04.

On May 20 Greenville High School traveled to Old Town High School. The Greenville boys ended the day in sixth place out of eight teams with a score of 21 points.

Devin Boone won both the shot and discus. His first-place shot throw went 43-07 and he earned top discus honors at 126-06.

Ben Baldwin added a sixth-place performance in the 200, at 25.21 seconds.

In the girls’ meet, the Lakers were seventh of eight with two points. Abby McDonough came in fifth in the high jump at 4-06.
