Food boxes, cheese blocks available

If you struggle to get to enough to eat, you should know about this. The USDA program provides 30-pound boxes of food and blocks of cheese to low-income seniors and adults with disabilities. The food is distributed monthly by the Good Shepherd Food Bank, and the Eastern Area Agency on Aging (EAAA) handles the application process for Piscataquis County.
Thousands more boxes are now available each month, and EAAA is trying to get the word out to anyone in need. You can simply call EAAA at 1-800-432-7812 to talk with someone over the phone who will ask you some questions and get the process started.
There is also a need for additional spaces in central locations to store the pallets of food boxes and refrigerate the cheese. Volunteers are needed to distribute the food from those sites once a month. If you know of such an organization, please call EAAA at 1-800-432-7812.
In addition to this opportunity, the Meals on Wheels program continues, and you can also contact EAAA to sign up for that.
