Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District board election results

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Each year the Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District (PCSWCD) holds an election of officers at the January board meeting. The outcome of this year’s election is as follows:
Gordon Moore was re-elected to serve as board chairman. Moore has served on the board for 20 years and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the PCSWCD. He is the former Piscataquis County district forester for the Maine Forest Service. He is instrumental in implementing a number of district conservation programs and technical trainings, and also coordinates a local chapter of the Maine Woodland Owners Association (formerly known as SWOAM).
Toby Hall was re-elected to as vice chair. Hall has served the PCSWCD since 2013. He owns and operates Hall’s Christmas Tree Farm. He has diversified district educational offerings by putting on tree pruning workshops and maintaining tree seedlings planted at the Law Farm property. He is an invaluable asset to the PCSWCD, and offers information and experience to our many conservation management endeavors.
Janet Sawyer was re-elected as treasurer. Sawyer has served the PCSWCD since 2013. She is committed to economic and community development with smart growth land planning principles. Sawyer is the former business development director for GrowSmart Maine and currently works to strengthen nonprofit boards that she is affiliated with. Sawyer provides her expertise to the PCSWCD on developing diverse and sustainable agriculture for a strong economy, and also provides business expertise to help guide the conservation district.
These officers, in conjunction with fellow board members Bruce Talley, Sam Brown, Donna Coffin and Pete Robinson, help the PCSWCD carry out its mission to be a leader in agriculture and forestry, by providing education and technical assistance to promote conservation of the natural resources upon which we depend.
The PCSWCD is seeking to fill open board supervisor positions and is extending an invitation to its board meetings to anyone interested in learning more about serving on the board.
