Power outage affects thousands in Piscataquis County

DOVER-FOXCROFT — On the coldest day of the season, thousands of Central Maine Power customers in Piscataquis County were left without electricity.

The outage occurred Friday morning amid below-zero temperatures and affected more than 8,300 customers at its peak, according to CMP’s website. Power had been restored to everyone as of 3:42 p.m. Dover-Foxcroft had a peak of 2,578 customers affected, while 1,779 were without power in Greenville, 586 in Monson, 329 in Guilford, and 246 in Willimantic. Somerset County had more than 800 customers without power at one point.

A tree fell on a transmission line and power began going out around 9:30 a.m., according to a CMP spokeswoman.

Warming centers were opened in the following locations but closed shortly before 3 p.m. as power was restored.

Dover-Foxcroft

  1.       Police Station: 182 E. Main St
  2.       Fire Department: 105 E. Main St.

Greenville

  1.       Church of the Open Bible 8 Shirwood Ave (right off rt 15 at the bottom of Indian Hill).

Guilford

  1.       Town office: 4 School St.
