‘Meet Your Area Legislator Night’ Dec. 12
DOVER-FOXCROFT — The RSU 68 school board is hosting a “Meet Your Area Legislator Night” at the SeDoMoCha School on Monday, Dec. 12 beginning at 6 p.m. State Sen. Paul Davis (R-Sangerville) and Reps. Norm Higgins (R-Dover-Foxcroft), Paul Stearns (R-Guilford) and Ray Wallace (R-Dexter) all plan to participate in the evening. The public is welcome to attend.
RSU 68 Board Chair Rick Johnston said, “This night will be an opportunity for us to let our legislators know what we need as we move into budget season.”
Superintendents and school boards from SAD 4, SAD 41 and AOS 94 have also been invited to come to SeDoMoCha and talk with the legislators. Some of the topics to be discussed include continued shifting of teacher retirement costs, how Question 2 might impact districts, what the legislators anticipate will come out of the Blue Ribbon Commission and if they see changes happening to the funding formula.
The area legislators are very experienced and some of them specifically in the education field. Rep. Stearns sits on the Education and Cultural Affairs Committee and he was a long-time area superintendent. Rep. Higgins, also a former long-time area school administrator, was just re-elected for his second term. Representing the towns of Dexter, Charleston, Exeter, Garland and Stetson, Rep. Wallace is currently serving a second term. Sen. Davis has extensive experience in the legislature and spent 23 years as a Maine state trooper.
