Column: More work to do in Washington, D.C.

Piscataquis County people work hard, each and every day, to provide for their families.

That’s why, in Congress, I am working to ensure your freedoms are protected, strengthen our national defense, and eliminate wasteful government spending.

As a third-generation Mainer, I understand the values and traditions of Maine. I know that hunting, fishing, camping and snowmobiling are key factors to our way of life. That why in Congress, I am working to ensure our freedoms, such as the 2nd Amendment, are always protected.

For instance, I supported a bill that would eliminate federal regulations to allow our Maine sportsmen and women to use federal lands, and puts in place safeguards to protect law-abiding citizens’ Second Amendment rights. Mainers have a rich tradition of using pristine lands for recreational use and firearms responsibly, I will always support and defend our Constitutional rights.

I have also been working to strengthen our national defense. I believe that radical Islamic terrorism is a major threat to our country and the world. That’s why I voted against the dangerous Iran Nuclear Deal.

This deal is dangerously one sided. Iran, the leading state-sponsor of terrorism, receives billions of dollars in assets and access to firearms and ballistic missiles. Secretary of State John Kerry even admitted that some money will go to terrorist organizations. This was a terrible deal, a dangerous deal, and that is why I voted against it.

But there is more work that needs to be done.

We need to strengthen our borders, reduce our national debt, lower taxes and ensure our seniors and veterans are receiving the benefits they have earned and deserve.

With your support, I will continue my work to fix these important issues and ensure our freedoms are always protected.

I am honored and humbled to be your representative in Congress.

Thank you.
