SeDoMoCha tops Ridge View in Penquis League championship

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Two goals in the second half and the team’s 12th shutout in as many games helped the SeDoMoCha Middle School field hockey team top the Ridge View Community School, 2-0, in the 2016 Penquis League championship game on Oct. 20 at Foxcroft Academy.

The squads had a scoreless stalemate over the 20 minutes of the first half. The host Eagles had three shots on goal and a pair of penalty corners, while holding Ridge View to without a shot and not allowing the opposition to have any corner opportunities.

In the second half SeDoMoCha had back-to-back penalty corners — the team would finish with a 5-2 corner advantage — and after the second play the team had possession of the ball on the Tiger side of the field. Meghan Spooner was awarded a free hit and she directed a shot toward the Ridge View goal.

SeDoMoCha’s Maren O’Connell won control of the loose ball and she passed to teammate Maranda Poulin. Poulin was in position for a point blank shot and she hit the ball in to put the Eagles on the scoreboard at the 12:23-mark.

Just over two minutes later Sheryl Chase passed to Poulin, holding her ground directly in front of the Ridge View goal. Poulin turned and put the ball in for an insurance goal with 10:09 remaining in the second half.

The Eagles, who finished the season with an overall record of 10-0-2, entered the game having not given up a single goal all season. The SeDoMoCha shutout streak continued as the team maintained its 2-0 advantage. Ridge View had consecutive penalty corners in the last three and a half minutes, but the Eagle defense prevented the Tigers from getting off any shots on goal and SeDoMoCha was able to clear the ball away after the second corner to run off the remaining clock and clinch the league title.

The SeDoMoCha roster is comprised of Maranda Poulin, Sheryl Chase, Ava Rayfield, Kiara Lovejoy, Maren O’Connell, Chloe Kishbaugh, Makenzie Sands, Kaitlyn Lord, Emily Harmon-Weeks, Aleisha Raymond, Roselyn Sage, Meghan Spooner, Lauren Martin, Lacey Kishbaugh, Justice Batchelder, Annie Raynes, Emily McLeish, Destiny Weymouth, Cassie Smith, coach Cassie Curtis and head coach Karen Snow.

The Ridge View personnel is Tina Lawson, Kaitlyn Gray, Makayla Bignell, Alli Green, Kassandra Gray, Aliviah Andersen, Elizabeth Kinney, Emma Ranquist, Maya Roettger, Ellie McComb, Lauryn Brunner, Kianna Bennett, Molly Bennett, Lilah McCormack, Cheyenne Beem and co-coaches Brooke Haskell and Kacie Ladd.
