DOVER-FOXCROFT — Nothing says relaxing weekends like a cookout. Whatever you prefer on the grill, it just tastes better cooked outside. On Saturday, Sept. 24 Foxcroft Academy student-athletes and Will’s Shop ‘n Save teamed up to feed the masses and help out Foxcroft Academy athletic programs at the same time with an old fashioned cookout in the Will’s parking lot.

Over a six-hour span, students-athletes, their coaches and employees of Will’s Shop ‘n Save cooked up and handed out over 500 hot dogs, bags of chips, sodas and desserts all by donation. Thanks to the generosity of Will Wedge and the rest of his staff, all of the products were donated and in the end $1,470 was raised. All the money goes right back to the Foxcroft Academy Sports Boosters.

“Through tremendous efforts from local businesses like Will’s Shop ‘n Save, our sports boosters and many other programs at Foxcroft Academy receive valuable funds used to help out our students,” said Arnold Shorey, head of school. “Will has been an ardent supporter of Foxcroft Academy since he purchased the store and over those five years, he and his staff have helped raise more than $10,000 for FA Sports Boosters and Project Graduation. Without those funds, we could not offer many of the opportunities our students have. We can’t thank businesses like Will’s Shop ‘n Save enough.”

Many student-athletes participated in the cookout on Saturday from all of the fall sports teams — football, boys and girls soccer, field hockey, golf, cheering and cross country. The students directly benefit from activities like this community project.
