TRAIL WORK Aerial view of Big Moose Mountain.

Big Moosehead Mountain is one of the region’s most prominent peaks and a classic Moosehead area hike. Participants will hike 2.1 miles to the summit, where they will be treated to tremendous views of Moosehead Lake and beyond. Along the way, they will clear trail corridor and clean and improve drains. The hiking and trail work will be of moderate to strenuous difficulty.

The work day will run from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Volunteers should meet at the intersection of the North Road and Rt. 15 (look for the Bureau of Parks and Lands sign) and bring their own lunch, water, work gloves, and bug repellant. Some tools will be provided but volunteers are encouraged to bring loppers, pruners and hand saws.

The rain date for this event is Saturday, Sept. 10. Contact MT Coordinator Erica Kaufmann at erica@fsmaine.org to sign up or for more information.

The work day will be hosted in partnership with the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation, and Forestry’s Bureau of Parks and Lands and is part of the schedule of events for the 43rd annual International Seaplane Fly-In. Pilots and their families are especially welcome. Organizers expect the view from Big Moose tol include many planes flying around the region and landing on Moosehead Lake.

Moosehead Trails is a group of volunteers who help maintain walking, hiking, and biking trails in the greater Moosehead Lake region. We are proud to provide opportunities to hike, learn about trail maintenance and construction, and serve Moosehead area communities. Find MT on Facebook for updates on the Sept. 9 work trip.
