Churches come together to help the community

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The community life committee of St. Thomas Catholic Church has been busy supporting its parish, Our Lady of the Snows. Committee members also realize the words of Jesus, “To love one another and help our neighbors.”

HELPING FEED THE COMMUNITY A yard sale held last month by the community life committee of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Dover-Foxcroft raised funds for four area food cupboards, including $500 which was presented to the Dover-Foxcroft Area Food Cupboard (which is housed at the Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church). From left are Rheba Michaud, a member of the community life committee and food cupboard board member; food cupboard President Rev. Chad Poland of the Dover-Foxcroft Congregational ; Fr. Emile Dube of St. Thomas Catholic Church; and Jane Conroy, of the community life committee and food cupboard secretary.

With Fr. Emile Dube’s support, the community life committee organized a parish yardsale with the churches of St. Anne’s in Dexter, St. Francis and St. Paul in Milo and St. Thomas Aquinas in Dover-Foxcroft. Committee members Rheba Michaud, Jane Conroy, Nancy Abrams and Lynn Lubas organized the yard sale with many members being very helpful. The goals were to support the youth ministry and local food cupboards. Funds raised will be given to food cupboards in Dexter, Guilford and Milo with $500 presented to the Dover-Foxcroft Area Food Cupboard on July 26.

The community life committee supports the Monday evening free community meals program, which are hosted by various organizations at the Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church. The committee plans and serves the meal on the fourth Monday of the month. Conroy and Michaud are on the Dover-Foxcroft Area Food Cupboard board and they know there is a real need to feed the hungry (poverty runs high) and have a place for people to come to together and be good neighbors.

Members of the community life committee are pleased that St. Thomas Catholic Church and the Congregational Church are working together to help the community. The Congregational Church enables the committee and others to use the facility for the meals. Rev. Chad Poland of the Congregational Church wrote a grant and received money for the meal program.
