Retired educator news

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The June meeting of the Piscataquis County Retired Educators Association was held June 28 at the Bear’s Den. Present were 11 members and a guest speaker, Rick Stocker from the Dexter Fire Department.

Gloria Burns gave the secretary’s report and Myrna Ricker presented the treasurer’s report. Both were accepted by the members present. It was noted that $1,345.68 was in the bank balance.

Stocker reviewed the duties of a fireman: full-time job elsewhere, on call 24/7 and a declining pool of members to assume responsibility of a fire department. His report was informative and interesting.

A request from Priscilla Higgins for volunteers to assist in the serving of a community dinner on Aug. 1 at the Congregational Church of Dover-Foxcroft was unanimously approved by the members present. Rheba Michaud is working to help organize the event.

Nancy Grant shared the results of a membership survey she conducted regarding the use of email addresses. Approximately 88 percent of those responding to the survey wanted the email address system used.

President Gilbert Reynolds announced that Jane Conroy had been appointed as the legislative liaison for the Piscataquis retirees.

The association is always looking for retired educators from Piscataquis County to join. For more information, contact 924- 6469.
