Board reviews resumes

GREENVILLE — With Town Manager John Simko departing at the end of the summer to become a municipal loan officer and vice president with Androscoggin Bank, resumes of candidates for Simko’s successor have been coming in to the town.

Select Chair Richard Peat and Simko were set to open the applications on July 8 with the information then circulated to the rest of the board, Simko said during a July 6 meeting of the selectmen. Town officials were scheduled to have a special meeting on July 11 with an executive session to begin reviewing the applications for the next town manager.

In other business, the selectmen accepted nine decorative metal benches from the Moosehead Lake Region Economic Development Corporation, through its brand leadership team and downtown experience subcommittee, which will be maintained by the town going forward. Four benches have already been installed by public works in the downtown area, and several include decorative planters added by committee members.

In his report, Simko said the downtown experience subcommittee is also working with him and Piscataquis County Economic Development Committee (PCEDC) Executive Director Christopher Winstead to finalize an order of large plastic planters and trees to be placed around the community. The planters and trees would be funded through a Maine Forest Service Project Canopy grant secured by Greenville through the PCEDC two years ago.

The next project is exploring options for decorative downtown trash receptacles. The larger effort to improve in-town Greenville is inspired by the Moosehead Lake Branding Action Plan produced by Roger Brooks International and the brand leadership team.
