D-F Kiwanis Club announces new plans for annual auction

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Dover-Foxcroft Kiwanis Club announces its annual auction will be July 28-31 at the Piscataquis Valley Fairgrounds with many old traditions brought back — along with new ideas and exciting events.

The auction has been in existence for over 60 years and is one of Piscataquis County’s most waited for events — three nights of meeting up with old friends, a frenzy of bidding on bargains galore, great food and a chance to help Kiwanis support the kids of our community through their many projects …. just a “win-win” event for everyone involved.

This year will see the return of specialized and dedicated events such as “Antiques Night-Plus” on Thursday, July 28, “Featured Items Night” Friday, July 29 and Corporate Sponsor’s Night Saturday, July 30. Bid on Moosehead and Haywood Wakefield — two well-known fine furniture names being auctioned off (limited quantities) — along with vintage model trains, a Governor Winthrop Desk, three Maine lobster dinners courtesy of Will’s Shop ‘n Save and much more.

New this year will be the addition of the barn sale on Sunday, July 31 from 1-4 p.m. This will be an everything goes, cash and carry sale and an opportunity for the public to tour the auction barn and make offers on anything remaining. All legitimate offers will be accepted and attendees will have a chance to walk away with unbelievable bargains.

The auction will tout all of the normal exciting activities including the bargain barn, an inside yard sale run by and supporting the Foxcroft Academy Key Club, the book barn filled with thousands of books especially cookbooks, movies, DVDs and CDs to all support the same local Kiwanis charities. The food trailers will be fully stocked and ready to feed with delicious and famous Kiwanis hot dogs, burgers, regular and sweet potato fries and dough boys. The beverage express for those who don’t want to wait in line but need a cold drink quickly.

There will be a maple baked bean supper on Saturday complete with maple beans, cole slaw, hot dogs, rolls and ice cream bars.

A 50/50 raffle runs each night. Tickets are ready now with the prizes drawn on Saturday night. This year prizes include three cash totals. Kiwanians will be selling tickets Thursday through Saturday at Bangor Savings Bank, the Maine Highland Federal Credit Union and Will’s Shop ‘n Save starting Thursday, July 13. Tickets can also be purchased by contacting any Kiwanis member and will also be available the three nights of the auction.

To donate items to the auction, call Joe Guyotte at 343-2267 or Bob Moore at 717-3337. Additionally, Kiwanis members will be at the Piscataquis Valley Fairgrounds each Tuesday evening from 5:30-7:30 p.m. to accept drop-off items.

The Kiwanis appreciates support of its charitable projects — some which include the signature project — Kiwanis Park located next to PRYMCA, Pine Tree Hospice, Center Theatre drama program, PRYMCA swim program, the Dover Area Food Cupboard and Partnership Pantry Food Cupboard in the Guilford-area, SeDoMoCha School and SAD 4 backpack programs, academic awards for Foxcroft Academy and PCHS, the two schools’ Key Clubs, Builders Clubs, fuel assistance, the annual Christmas Project and many others.
