Maines completes NH-INBRE research assistantship
NEW LONDON, N.H. — Benjamin Maines of Abbot, a member of the class of 2018 majoring in biology, completed a New Hampshire IDeA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence (NH-INBRE) summer research assistantship at Colby-Sawyer College.
Maines was one of six students selected to be part of the project which centered around the activity of honeybee and bumblebee populations near campus. Students built a hive, caught bumblebees and spent time in the lab sequencing DNA.
NH-INBRE research assistantships are funded through a federal grant designed to enhance biomedical research training and opportunities across New Hampshire. The five-year, $15.4 million grant from the National Institutes of Health has funded a research network which includes Colby-Sawyer students and faculty.
