Local athletes shine at PVC small-school track meet

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Dexter’s Brandon Allen and Piscataquis of Guilford’s Haylee Patterson were among the top local competitors in Saturday’s Penobscot Valley Conference small-school track and field championships held at Oakes Field on the campus of Foxcroft Academy.

Allen, a junior, scored points for the Tigers in all three jumping events. He placed second in the triple jump with a best of 39 feet, 2¼ inches, fifth in the long jump (18-6½) and sixth in the high jump (5-4) while also teaming with Dillon Allen, Jason Campbell and Zach White to place fifth in the 4×100 relay (48.48).

Patterson, a senior, finished second in the girls shot put (29-8½) and sixth in the javelin (79-7).

Dexter was the top-finishing local school in both the boys and girls competitions, placing eighth in both divisions. The Tiger girls totaled 21 points, the boys 19.

Penquis Valley of Milo (10) and Piscataquis (9) placed 10th and 11th in the girls field, while the Penquis boys scored two points to place 14th.

Orono swept the boys and girls team titles.

Dexter freshman sprinter Danielle Cummings had a strong day, placing fourth in the 100 (13.50) and 200 (27.85) and joining Autumn Irvin, Lily Cummings and Katie Batron on the Tigers’ second-place 4×100 relay squad (54.88).

Lily Cummings added a sixth in the long jump (13-8½) and Batron was sixth in the 100 (13.77). Rebecca Batron placed sixth in the shot put for the Tigers with a best of 25-8½.

Juniors Sean Lockhart and Tanner Hall added points for the Dexter boys with fourth-place finishes, Lockhart in the javelin (122-7) and Hall in the shot put (38-11½).

Penquis Valley junior Jordan Durant finished third in the girls long jump (14-9) and fourth in the triple jump (30-9), while the Patriots’ Joshua Martin was fifth in the boys javelin (122-3).
