Hooked on Fishing events starting this weekend

Hooked on Fishing Not Drugs events, for children to try their hand at the sport, will start on Saturday morning and be held over the next month-plus.

THE BIG FISH ARE BITING Jim Ellis recently caught this fish at his favorite pond, with the the catch weighing six pounds and eight ounces and measuring 25 inches in length. Youngsters can try their hand at five Hooked on Fishing events over the next month-plus.

The first session will be on Saturday, May 21 at the Kiwanis Park pond behind the Piscataquis Regional YMCA, sponsored by the Maine State Police and the Dover-Foxcroft Police Department.

The next Saturdays will feature Hooked on Fishing events at several locations across the region. May 28’s will be at Drummond Pond in Abbot, sponsored by the Hooked on Fishing volunteers; June 4’s is at the Gravel Pit Pond in Greenville and sponsored by the Moosehead Lake Fisheries Coalition and the Moosehead Kiwanis Club; June 11’s is at the Kiwanis Park pond and sponsored by the PRYMCA and Save-A-Lot; and as part of the 2016 Maine Whoopie Pie Festival on June 25 there will be a Hooked on Fishing event at the Kiwanis Park pond.
