GFWC/Miosac Club wraps up for the season

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Chef Minnie McCormick and co-hostess Pat Jones treated members to a picnic, complete with ants, at Thayer Parkway on May 3. The meal consisted of grilled hot dogs, coleslaw, pickles, olives. chips, iced tea, punch and special cookies. All had a good time and enjoyed the special picnic. Prior to dinner, President Vicki Moschella presented a check of over $550 to Chris Maas for the new senior center, The Commons.

RETIRING OFFICERS The retiring officers of the GFWC/Miosac Club are, from left, Treasurer Carol Kilpatrick, Vice President Anne Cress. President Vicki Moschella and Secretary Minnie McCormick. 

 

Following the picnic Moschella called the meeting to order. Diane Leighton led the Club Collect, American’s Creed and Pledge of Allegiance. Dot Finnemore said a prayer for three members who are ill and unable to attend. McCormick took roll with 15 members responding, followed by the minutes of the last meeting. Carol Kilpatrick gave the treasurer’s report. Roxy McGlauflin read a thank you note from Betty Harvey’s family for the wonderful cards and pictures sent to her on her birthday.

Finnemore reminded members of the birthday dinner May 18 at the Bear’s Den — the club will will be celebrating 80 years. Prior to the meeting, members will meet at the Marion Doore Park to dedicate a tree planted in honor of the GFWC 125th birthday in 2015.

Other reports were given and new officers were elected, they will be installed at the birthday dinner.

It was announced that there will be public baked bean supper May 28 at the United Methodist Church, proceeds go toward the Maine Cancer Foundation.

The session was adjourned and the annual meeting was called to order. McCormick gave the secretary’s report with number of programs and average attendance. Kilpatrick gave the treasurer’s report. Jones audited the report and found the books to be in order. Kilpatrick presented the proposed budget and members adopted it.

The meeting was then adjourned. Club is officially over until October.
