D-F native to take part in annual Tri for a Cure

Benefit supper set for May 28 at the United Methodist Church

On July 17 Judy Dow, who was born and raised in Dover-Foxcroft and now lives in South Portland, will be taking part in the Maine Cancer Foundation’s annual Tri for a Cure.

“I will be competing in this event this year,” Dow, a 1973 graduate of Foxcroft Academy, said. “I am a 10-year breast cancer survivor, so this event is very important to me. I have also lost family members and friends to cancer.”

This year’s Tri for a Cure will be held on Sunday, July 17 in South Portland. “It is a ‘sprint’ triathlon for women only, “ she said. “There is a .33-mile swim in the ocean, 15-mile bike ride and 3-mile run. All money received goes to the Maine Cancer Foundation, and stays right here in Maine for education, research and patient support.”

Later this month, Dow will be back in her hometown for a Tri for a Cure fundraiser. She said her family — her parents, brother, a sister and her brother-in-law Police Chief Dennis Dyer all live in Dover-Foxcroft — will be helping her serve a baked bean supper on Saturday, May 28 at the United Methodist Church on East Main Street.

The meal will take place from 4:30 to 6 p.m. with Dow and her family serving two kinds of homemade baked beans, cole slaw, American chop suey, hot dogs, bread and cake for dessert. All proceeds will go toward her fundraising efforts for Tri for a Cure.

For more information, please contact Dow at judy.adow@yahoo.com. “Folks can go to Triforacure.org, click on donate, search for me and make a donation,” she said.
