Clean-Up Day set for May 14

GUILFORD — Saturday, May 14 is the Guilford Maine Community Pride Clean-Up Day — see the Facebook page of the same name.

The day is an annual event and of particular interest in this, the town’s Bicentennial year. The Guilford Maine Community Pride Clean-Up Day was originally started and continues to be organized by Julie Porter-Chase. It is supported by New Balance through its supplies trash bags; Goulette’s IGA, who supplies bottled water and latex gloves; and the Red Maple Inn, who provides a free BBQ lunch to all who helped. The work is conducted by volunteers, most of whom call in and let organizers know which street or streets they will pick up the litter from, so this can be mapped out in order to get the most coverage.

Those taking part in the Guilford Maine Community Pride Clean-Up Day meet at the town office at 8 a.m., and pass out trash bags, water and gloves. Volunteers walk the roadsides, filling bags and leaving them on the shoulder to be picked up after lunch. At noon is lunch..and the town is much prettier by early afternoon.

Anyone wanting further info should contact the town office at 8786-2202 or Porter-Chase at 343-1010.
