LUCY 8491469DOVER-FOXCROFT — After two years on the job, Regional School Unit 68 Superintendent Robert Lucy will be leaving the position leading the pre-kindergarten through grade 8 district on June 30. RSU 68 comprises the towns of Charleston, Dover-Foxcroft, Monson and Sebec.

“I informed the school board a little more than four months ago I wasn’t seeking an extension,” Lucy said.

“I’m going to explore some other opportunities, nothing specific at this time,” he added about his plans for the future.

During its April meeting, the school board voted 7-0 to hire Stacy Shorey as superintendent, replacing Lucy.

Shorey has been the assistant superintendent of AOS 43 — which comprises Milo-based SAD 41 and the Howland-based SAD 31 — since January 2013. She has worked in SAD 41 for nearly five years. Shorey’s husband, Arnold, is the head of school for Foxcroft Academy, where RSU 68 tuitions students for high school education.

Lucy said he is continuing to work on initiatives for RSU 68 over the next two-plus months, mentioning the development of a new educator effectiveness plan as an example. He said he is also in the midst of preparing the 2017 school budget which was scheduled to be brought before the school board for a formal vote at its Tuesday, May 3 meeting.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity,” said Lucy. “I think we have a wonderful spirit of cooperation that exists here in the school and the community.”

“It was very positive,” RSU 68 School Board Vice Chair Jenny Chase said about Lucy’s time as superintendent.

Lucy and Bangor-area radio personality Rich Kimball recently were signed to a three-year contract to broadcast University of Maine football games.

“I really have enjoyed working in the school, and I wish everyone the best,” Lucy said. “I truly enjoyed the opportunity.”
