 Etta Marsh Hubbard

PO EttaHubbardOB GREENVILLE – Etta Marsh Hubbard, 96, wife of the late Harold E. Hubbard, passed away April 20, 2016, at C.A. Dean Skilled Care Facility in Greenville. She was born October 19, 1919, in Greenville, the daughter of William D. and Elizabeth J. (Wood) Marsh.

Mrs. Hubbard had worked as a cook for many years, then for a number of years as a clerk at the Maine State Liquor Store. She especially liked her many years at the Shaw Public Library, retiring when she was 93 years old. For many years she had been considered the local historian in the Greenville area, fielding calls from all over the country, if not the world.

She enjoyed cooking, berry picking, gardening, reading, writing in her journal, as well as sketching and painting. Of all the things Etta enjoyed, family was her greatest love. Coming from a rather large family, it was natural for her to have many people around, and there always were many around, especially on Sundays for dinner. In fact, family grew to include everyone who came to know Etta.

She is survived by two daughters, Patty Brown and her husband, Clowes of Elliottsville, and Linda McBrierty and her husband, Alan of Greenville. She leaves two grandchildren, Rebecca Brown and her husband, Troy, and Laura Pollis and her husband, Steve; two step-grandchildren, Bryan McBrierty and his wife, Heather, and Elizabeth Ireland and her husband, Andy; two great-grandchildren, Zoe Brown and Bensyn Pollis; four step-great-grandchildren, Katie and Cooper McBrierty and Andrew and Grace Ireland; several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by seven brothers, Clair Roberts, Norman Roberts, Coburn Roberts, Carl Roberts, Lee Roberts, William Marsh, and an infant brother, Robert Roberts; three sisters, Martha Roberts Powers, Florence Marsh Carter and Virginia Marsh; a daughter, Donna Hubbard; and an infant son, Harold Hubbard II.

Friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m., Friday, April 29, 2016, at the Greenville Chapel of the Lary Funeral Home, 281 Pritham Ave, Greenville. A memorial service will be conducted 3 p.m., Saturday, April 30, at the Union Evangelical Church, Greenville. Burial will be in the family lot in Greenville Cemetery.
