Miles earns college field hockey academic honor

PO SPMILESMUG 4 16 16846279COLCHESTER, Vt. — Eighteen members of the St. Michael’s College field hockey team qualified for the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Collegiate Div. II National Academic Squad for this past fall, while the Purple Knights earned an NFHCA Collegiate National Academic Team Award for the 12th consecutive year.

Among the St. Michael’s honorees is junior Monica Miles, of Dover-Foxcroft and 2013 graduate of Foxcroft Academy. Miles earned her third career National Academic Squad honor. The National Academic Squad recognizes student-athletes that have achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2015-16 academic year, while the team award recognizes programs that achieved a minimum 3.0 GPA during the first semester.

With 18 of the 24 student-athletes on its roster being honored, St. Michael’s tied for the Northeast-10 Conference lead in National Academic Squad qualifiers while falling one player short of two national leaders. The Purple Knights are one of 27 programs to draw the team accolade, with 11 from the NE-10.

Miles is the daughter of Dr. Ronald Miles Jr. and Katie Miles. She is majoring in biology and minoring in chemistry.
