WELCOMING SPRING — The PCSWCD will host a welcome spring celebration on March 19 at the Law Farm. The event will include a presentation from Gordon Moore on wood duck nesting ecology.

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Piscataquis County Soil and Water Conservation District (PCSWCD) is extending an open invitation to families, school groups and the public to join the district and welcome spring during an equinox celebration at the Law Farm. The celebration to welcome spring will be a great way for folks to enjoy what the Law Farm has to offer as a dynamic outdoor educational and recreational space for all to enjoy.

This event will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 19 with snow-shoeing and skiing the Law Farm trails, and a hands-on presentation at the farm wetland from Gordon Moore of the Maine Forest Service about wood duck nesting ecology, finishing the presentation with a wood duck box installation. The Law Farm’s extensive wetlands with natural biodiversity offer ideal habitat for wood ducks. Skiing, snowshoeing and the wood duck demonstration will be fun, unique ways to check out the beautiful nature trails and educational demonstration areas.

After fun in the snow, attendees will gather back at the trailhead for a bonfire and potluck BBQ. Hot dogs, hamburgers and the fixings for s’mores will be provided. The PCSWCD staff will be present to answer questions about the Law Farm, the array of natural resource programs or to just have a friendly conversation.

The Law Farm is a 115-acre parcel of public land that is owned and maintained by the PCSWCD. Since the land was deeded to the district in 2009, those involved have worked to develop a trail system and create an engaging, educational outdoor space for Piscataquis County residents and visitors to enjoy and actively learn about the benefits of a community forest.

In case of warmer weather and no snow, the PCSWCD will welcome spring with a good hike around the nature trails followed by a bonfire and BBQ. The PCSWCD is encouraging everyone interested in coming to RSVP by calling 564-2321 ext. 3 or emailing info@piscataquisswcd.org.
