Pony boys swim at PVC championship

BANGOR — A trio of Foxcroft Academy boys’ relay teams placed in the top nine at the 2016 Penobscot Valley Conference Swimming and Diving Championship on Feb. 8 at Husson University. The three squads’ performances resulted in a score of 26 points as the Ponies finished in the 10th place in a field of 14 schools.

The Foxcroft 400-yard freestyle relay team finished in eighth place with a time of 4 minutes, 35.38 seconds. Swimming the event was junior Pedro Bastos, senior Tanner Strout and juniors Owen Booker and David Salley Jr.

The Ponies had ninth-place swims in both the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays. In the 200 medley freshman Nathaniel Skomars, Booker, Bastos and Salley combined for a time of 2:19.88. Seniors Buddy Sletterink and Jason Thompson, Skomars and senior Hunter Giacomuzzi together had a time of 1:56.29 in the 200 freestyle relay.

Ellsworth High School finished in first place with 325 points, the program’s first boys conference title and the first in eight years not won by Bangor High School. Mount Desert Island High School came in second with 211 points and Old Town High School was third with 195 points.
