It’s Derby Time, part deux!

To the Editor;

The ninth annual Moosehead Lake Togue Derby with Ricky Craven will resume on Friday, Feb. 19th through the 21st. We expect much better travel conditions as ole man winter is finally making an appearance this week, bringing us sub-zero temps and a fresh coating of snow. Anglers should still be careful around the typical bad ice areas such as: moving water, narrows, and pressure ridges.

NREC has been working hard to collect some awesome prizes this year including: Vacation trips, firearms, cash, concert tickets, and overnight stays in our area and all around Maine. And best of all, you don’t need to fish to win any of these great door prizes. Just buy your ticket and you could be on your way to Vegas, Orlando, or Bermuda before the snow melts!

You can check out the complete prize listing on our website ( www.NRECmoosehead.org). NREC is also giving away three prizes to kids including a youth lifetime fishing license, new Trek bike, and a Dove Tail bat. We have over 70 prizes to giveaway, so get your derby tickets this week!

Also, if you’re in the area, drop by the Masonic Temple from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20th and check out our silent and Chinese auctions. We have some great items up for bid like an autographed Red Sox baseball, artwork, two date night packages to Bangor, a Lionel train car, Native American keepsake basket, gift certificates galore, and much, much more. Stop in and make a bid. All the proceeds go toward our youth summer program, the Maine Woods Explorers.

NREC and the Masons will be hosting a Wild and Tame Dinner on Saturday night Feb. 20th from 4-7 p.m. at the Masonic Temple on Pritham Ave. We will be serving moose, deer and bear as the tasty wild treats and a roast turkey dinner if you’re feeling tame. Dinner is by donation and again these funds will help support the Mason’s charities and NREC’s youth programs. We will be drawing all the derby door prizes and auction results after the meal around 7 p.m.

Good luck to all the participants and we’ll see you at the derby!

NREC President
