Club learns about county EMA

By Minnie McCormick

DOVER-FOXCROFT — GFWC/Miosac Club members were pleased to hear about the Piscataquis County Emergency Management Agency (EMA). We learned things we did not know, some members did not know it existed, and this is the second in a series of public issues.

BE PREPARED Piscataquis County Emergency Management Agency Planner Fred Muehl and Administrative Assistant Brenda Clawson spoke to the GFWC/Miosac Club about emergency preparedness.

EMA Planner Fred Muehl gave us a list of things we would need to have ready in case of an emergency. He said to plan for at least three days of being isolated for some emergencies. He presented with us with a list of items to keep in a “go bag”, ready to grab and go — we will have the bags at the next meeting. Included with the lists and other information was an emergency light that plugs in and lets you know when the power is off. Muehl noted that 90 percent of the time there will be time to prepare.

Piscataquis County has two certified shelters, one in Greenville and one in Sebec. Milo has a bunker as well. They are well stocked with emergency equipment. The fire departments have some equipment too.

The Emergency Management Agency also have drills to learn how to deal with catastrophes. They recently had a problem at the water tower. They have dealt with plane crashes too.

The Miosac Club thanks them for all the information and lists they distributed. Along with the fire department information, things need to be in working order.
