Schoodic Lake Ice Fishing Derby

GONE ICE FISHING — Bangor residents Mike Lawson and Kelly Shorette registered their catch in 2014 at the Knights Landing weigh station in Brownville. Shorette’s togue measured 23.25 inches and weighed 4.42 pounds and Lawson’s measured 20.5 inches and weighed 2.81 pounds.

The 2016 derby features cash prizes for fish caught as well as drawings for over $15,000 worth of prizes. The prize drawing is scheduled to be streamed at 7 p.m. on Feb. 14 at www.trcmaine.org.

NOT QUITE THE CATCH OF THE DAY — Troy Lambert of Mt. Vernon holds the salmon he caught during last year’s Schoodic Lake Ice Fishing Derby, after Ricky Bradeen of the Milo Fire Department weighed and measured the 3.8-pound and 22-inch fish. Despite the mild winter, the 54th edition of the derby is still on as anglers — who are urged to be as cautious as possible on the ice — can fish in Schoodic, Ebeemee, Seboeis and Boyd lakes in eastern Piscataquis County.
