George E. Emmons

DOVER-FOXCROFT – George E. Emmons, 97, husband of Miriam M. (Trask) Emmons, passed away January 9, 2016, at Hibbard Nursing Home, Dover-Foxcroft. He was born January 30, 1918, in Morris, CT, the son of Clark H. and Gertude L. (Hendrix) Emmons.

He attended schools in Morris. George met his wife while square dancing; they later moved to Middlebury, CT, where he worked as a mechanic for twenty-seven years at the Middlebury Garage. They built their home and raised their four sons there. In 1973, they moved to East Dover and lived with Douglas. George enjoyed working with his son rebuilding an old farm. 

He leaves his wife of 70 years, Miriam; and their sons, Douglas, with whom he lived in East Dover, Gary R. and his wife, Deborah, of Lakeland, FL, and Walter and his wife, Geri, of Sebec; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. He leaves a nephew, Harry Emmons of Bangor; two nieces in Connecticut; and a daughter-in-law of Orting, WA.

George was predeceased by a son, Ronald, in 2010; a great-grandson, Gavin VanBrocklin; and a brother and two sisters.

George’s family extends grateful appreciation to the staff at Hibbard Nursing Home for their wonderful care for George.

Burial will be in the East Dover Cemetery.
