DOW, W ayne D., 65, Dover-Foxcroft, December 23, 2015. A gathering to remember, share stories and laugh with family and friends will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2016, at 2 p.m., at the Reading Room in Sebec Village.
DOVER-FOXCROFT – Wayne Douglas Dow (The Trout Man), 65, passed away peacefully at his home, with family by his side, on Wednesday, December 23, 2015. He was born February 25, 1950, in Dover-Foxcroft, to the late Ralph Dow Sr., and Lucy (Stanhope) Dow.
He attended grade school in Sebec and high school at Foxcroft Academy (Class of 1969), where he participated in the football and track & field programs.
Wayne loved that he grew up in Sebec Village and had many stories of all the good times spent swimming at the bridge, hanging out with the boys at the Rat’s Nest, and playing softball with the Stump Jumpers. After graduation, he was drafted into the Army, where he had many fond memories of his time stationed in Alaska. After returning home, he worked as a painter for many years, then worked at Goulette’s IGA, in Guilford, until his retirement.
Wayne was a fun loving guy, never needing or asking for much, and always looked for a good time, a COLD Bud, trout streams, and a breath of fresh air. He loved to laugh and kept everyone around him laughing. He also had a love for cats, loved to cook, and was a huge fan of the New York Giants and the Boston Red Sox. His pride and joy was his son Seth.
He is survived by his wife, Karen (Melia) Dow of Dover-Foxcroft, with whom he enjoyed 21 years; his son, Seth Thomas Dow and girlfriend, Vikki Holtby, of Saranac Lake, NY; his brothers, David Dow and wife, Kathy, of Barnard, Ralph Dow, Jr., and wife, Lynette, of Milo, Andrew Dow and wife, Carol, of Lagrange, Danny Dow and wife, Gail, of Sebec, Benjamin Dow and wife, Susan, of Sebec; his sister, Annette and husband, Mark Richardson, of Sebec; stepdaughter, Marlina Richards of Charleston; and three step-grandchildren, Matthew, Trevor, and Nathan; mother-in-law, Mary Melia of Dover-Foxcroft; father-in-law, Malcolm Melia of Monson; five sisters-in-law; many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his lifelong best friend, David Mallett of Sebec; and his beloved cats, Apollo and Natasha.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Dottie; and his brother, Harold Pratt.
The family would like to thank his hospice caregiver, Pam Richardson, for her kind and compassionate care.
